Science That Powers
Stem cell treatments are transforming medicine.
Stem cells have been used to treat certain blood based cancers for decades, and more recently, they’ve successfully treated some immunological disorders. Stem cell research is global, and our knowledge and capabilities grow constantly. The world’s best scientists are confident that in the near future, stem cells will be able to treat diseases such as macular degeneration, Parkinson’s, heart disease, and many more. Storing your cells with GoodCell will give you access to those treatments as soon as they’re available.
Meet Kevin Eggan, Harvard professor, world-leading stem cell researcher, GoodCell user.
Bank your blood for life.
Your Blood carries measurable biomarkers that reflect both your current and your future health. It may also hold the key to beating disease, and even certain aspects of aging, in the future. Here at GoodCell, we extract three key components from your blood: cells, DNA, and plasma.
Your DNA is your genetic blueprint. We store it so that we can run new tests for genetic predispositions as soon as they’re validated, giving you a more comprehensive view of your health.
Your Stem Cells in your blood today may hold the key to beating cancer and other diseases tomorrow. We store them so that you can take advantage.
Your Blood Plasma stored serves as a baseline for future blood tests, ensuring that our tests are every bit as accurate as your doctor’s — and even more informative.
Stem cells, both those that occur naturally in the blood and those that can be made from it, are the heart of what we do. Your blood stem cells have an incredible ability to maintain and repair normal body functions. For decades, doctors have used them to effectively treat blood cancers, and more recently, they’ve been used to treat other blood and autoimmune disorders.
Certain white blood cells, another type of cell that GoodCell stores, have been shown to be very efficient in making a new type of stem cell — induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (or an iPS cells). Researchers around the globe are very excited about the potential of iPS cells to treat a wide variety of diseases. Some clinical trials involving iPS cells have already started showing positive results.
But as you age, your blood stem cells become less effective at fighting disease and your other cells become less efficient at becoming iPS cells. Many studies have shown the healthiest cells you will ever have are the ones you have right now. We extract the healthiest cells from your blood sample and store them in our state of the art biorepository so that they’re ready when you need them. Stored stem cells grow in value over time as researchers develop new therapies using them to treat diseases and other conditions.
You probably know that DNA is the genetic blueprint that your body uses to function. What you may not have known is that your DNA also contains a wealth of information about your health. Certain genetic variants (miniscule variations between your genetic code and the typical genetic code) can cause elevated risk for certain diseases and conditions.
We can screen for genetic variants associated with predisposition to a variety of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, as well as certain cancers.
Best of all, we’ll combine all this information with your self-reported medical history, family background, lifestyle habits, and more to give you the most comprehensive possible view of your health.
Blood plasma is a water-based fluid that makes up a little more than half of your blood’s total volume. In addition to water, it contains proteins, nucleic acids, salts, cellular waste, nutrients, and gases.
Plasma testing is a great way to measure kidney, liver, pancreas, prostate, ovary, and heart health. Plasma storage adds an extra benefit: if you ever want to do a blood test that you haven’t done before, you’ll be able to use your plasma as a baseline. That way you’ll know not only what your levels are, but exactly how they’ve changed.
Plasma storage allows GoodCell, and you, to take a more proactive approach to your long term health.
